Co-Owner of Rehab Entertainment, Terissa Kelton

Terissa Kelton

In this profile series, Revry is highlighting authentic contributors to the queer media and entertainment community. We ask questions to find out who they are and where they are going in the future. The questions remain the same but the answers tell their unique story. It’s time to explore and celebrate true representation beyond the limits of Hollywood.

Terissa Kelton (She/Her) is an award-winning actress and producer whose work has been recognized globally, including at the Austin Film Festival and The Annecy International Film Festival. Kelton is the Co-Owner and Executive Vice President at Rehab Entertainment with her producing partner, John W. Hyde. Her development slate includes FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR for Disney+ with Bryce Dallas Howard attached to direct; PROPHET, based on the Rob Liefeld comic book, with Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star; In kids, THE KISSING HAND and LENA!, both based on beloved children’s books. Kelton was a first-generation college student at Texas State University. Having grown up in a tiny Texas town, Kelton understands the hurdles of leaping into the unknown. Along with producing alongside brilliant creators from diverse walks of life, she spreads the message that it is worth arguing with the little voice inside your head that tells you “you don’t belong here.”

What are you best known for?

Hopefully from acting in and producing the second season of PRIDE: THE SERIES, which is one of the first LGBT series to come out of NYC on a digital platform- it now lives on Amazon. And if you’re a book lover, you might have seen her name recently on AppleTV+ where she serves on the executive producing team for the animated series, HARRIET THE SPY. The series is based on the book by queer author and illustrator, Louise Fitzhugh. The series features the voices of Beanie Feldstein and Jane Lynch, among many other amazing talents. It also features an original theme song by Courtney Barnett.

What is the first thing you worked on professionally?

In the indie world, it all started with a horror feature by Dorell Anthony (also the creator of PRIDE: The Series) called HOMECOMING which she acted in and produced. Her first studio movie was Paramount’s SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCOLYPSE, where she served as a construction supervisor’s assistant and loved every moment of riding around in a golf cart on Sable Ranch.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

You know she can’t talk about that! ;) Rehab Entertainment’s slate is always growing in different directions –working with lots of IP holders in webcomics, books, games, etc. Alongside a brilliant writer, she’s working on a pregnancy horror feature from the point of view of a female, pregnant protagonist. Her goal with content is to tell universal stories through a specific lens that maybe we haven’t seen through before. On their kids/family slate, Rehab Entertainment focuses on stories that empower kids and encourage them to have agency in changing the world around them.
