Equity Upfront Explores Economy’s Impact On DE&I Media Investments

Urban One was among 29 diverse-owned and targeted media companies participating in Magna’s third annual Equity Upfront last week in New York City. While the event provides a conduit for programmers to pitch their shows and advertising opportunities to agencies and brands, this year’s event also tackled the issue of how ad pullbacks could undo the progress made during the past few years in helping minority media owners receive a more equitable share of ad dollars.

When it comes to investing in diverse-owned media company presenters at Magna’s Equity Upfront urged ad buyers to buy direct rather than through programmatic ad platforms. “Programmatic is lazy for minority platforms,” said Damian Pelliccione, CEO and co-founder of LGBTQ+ streamer Revry, during a panel.
