Revry Celebrates the Spirit of the Latinx Community during Hispanic Heritage Month

For Revry, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor celebrate and a community that is diverse and vibrant. For this reason we are programming selected movies starting September 15t that inspire exploration of the authentic diverse voices in the Hispanic Community.

Each of these titles is available to watch on Revry and will be playing on Revry live TV wherever you watch Revry. XXY

For just about everybody, adolescence means having to confront a number of choices and life decisions, but rarely any as monumental as the one facing 15 year-old Alex, who was born an intersex child.  As Alex begins to explore her sexuality, her mother invites friends from Buenos Aires to come for a visit at their house on the gorgeous Uruguayan shore, along with their 16-year-old son Álvaro. Alex is immediately attracted to the young man, which adds yet another level of complexity to her personal search for identity, and forces both families to face their worst fears.

Saturday Church

SATURDAY CHURCH tells the story of 14-year-old Ulysses, a shy and effeminate boy, who finds himself coping with new responsibilities as “man of the house” after the death of his father. Living alongside his mother, younger brother, and conservative aunt, Ulysses is also struggling with questions about his gender identity. He finds an escape by creating a world of fantasy filled with dance and music. Ulysses’ journey takes a turn for the better when he encounters a vibrant transgender community, who take him to “Saturday Church,” a program for LGBTQ youth. Ulysses manages to keep his two worlds apart; appeasing his aunt and discovering his passion for the NYC ball scene, and voguing, until his double life is revealed. Ulysses must find the courage to be who he truly is, all while risking losing those he cares about most.

Gay Positive

Gay Positive educates viewers about the controversial ban on queer men donating blood in the USA. The film captures opinions of people from all walks of life, asking, If you were in need of blood would you take it from a queer? Organizations are forced to reject healthy individuals from donating. During the filming of this documentary, Mexico and the UK lifted their ban, while the FDA insists it remain. Through insightful conversations with Laverne Cox, Rutanya Alda, Blanche Baker, Jim Colucci, Frank DeCaro, Trapper Felides, Tiago Grade, Carly Hughes, Chelsey Keding, Yetta Kurland, Lisa Lampanelli, Vincent Leggett, Danny Logan, Dave McRee, Anthony Lee Medina, Eric Millegan, Kaitlin Monte, Tym Moss, Garry Novikoff, Athena Reich, and Justin Luke Zirilli; Gay Positive raises public awareness on the potential benefits of lifting the ban.

"Horácio" tells the story of a dysfunctional family, in which social norms no longer exist, and where relationships are submitted to each one's impulses. While he keeps his daughter locked up in her bedroom, Horácio flirts with his goon, for whom he has had repressed feelings for years. However, Milton's love for a mysterious woman, and Petula's attempts to free herself with the help of a former lover, clash with Horácio tyrannical whims.

O Que Resta (The Remains)

In this relatively isolated house - always crowded with friends, lovers, music, laughter, where the parties happen for no particular reason, the frustrations and repressed desires of a young middle class couple finally reach the point of eruption. Bárbara and Luiz seem to have finally got rid of the vague artistic ambitions they cherished at the age of twenty. Attached to jobs they hate, exhausted by the demands imposed by an increasingly expensive and chaotic city, the couple finds occasional comfort by visiting, the mountain property of Yuri, a wealthy friend of the couple. Both Barbara and Luiz will eventually be forced to deal with the repressed passion they feel for their long-time friend, as well as the personal frustrations they have been ignoring for years. Times that return, bodies that meet, vices that remain.
