The Art of GROWTH with Angela Harvey

Angela Harvey

In this profile series, Revry is highlighting authentic contributors to the queer media and entertainment community. We ask questions to find out who they are and where they are going in the future. The questions remain the same but the answers tell their unique story. It’s time to explore and celebrate true representation beyond the limits of Hollywood.

Angela Harvey (She/Her) grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and currently resides in NC. Ms. Harvey, a proud and never closeted lesbian is a motivational speaker, counselor, and self-identified GROWTHologist; and just recently became a director of her first documentary. Angela has empowered others via radio; Conversations with Angie Harvey, produced several personal GROWTH videos: Keeping It Real Series and facilitated hundreds of personal GROWTH workshops, presentations, retreats, and keynotes with 60+ organizations, companies, and colleges. Her award-winning documentary Black Rainbow Love isn’t the first time Angela has created a platform for stories of the Black LGBTQ+ community to be heard however it is her first time directing and producing a film that creatively compiles them. She is truly a woman on the GROW!

What are you best known for?

I’m best known for being a GROWTHologist, helping GROWN forks GROW up.  Over the last 20+ years, my name has become synonymous with the word GROW.  Eighty-five percent of those that know me have been in one of my workshops, receive professional counseling, attended a retreat, heard me drop knowledge on Conversations w/ Angie Harvey, or followed me on social media.  I’m honored to be known in this way.

What is the first thing you worked on professionally?

I did my first personal GROWTH workshop at DC Black Pride in 2002;  I just celebrated my 20-year speaking anniversary. I was honored to be able to return to DC Black Pride for the 14th time in 20 years to premiere a preview of my docuseries Black Rainbow Love.

What are you working on that no one knows about yet?

A creative way to feature all of the Black LGBTQ+ greatness that work in, for, and with the community.  I know a lot of them and I think everyone should too!!
